High yield strength steels (EN 10025) are fine-grained and killed steels. They have a low carbon content but contain elements such as nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), and niobium (NB), giving them a specific chemical composition to achieve excellent mechanical performance.

These steels offer several advantages over traditional structural steels. They are highly weldable without the need for pre or post-heating and provide excellent cold formability. Additionally, they can be flame-cut without hardening and offer good resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Types of plates and thicknesses

In the market, you can find both plates derived from coils and train plates. Available thicknesses range from a few tenths of a millimeter (as in micro-alloyed high-strength steels from coils) to several centimeters (as in forged and rolled plates derived from ingots).

In between, there are quarto plates, derived from slabs, used in the rolling process. High yield strength steels are known for their high yield points, which means they have a high elastic capacity before permanent deformation occurs.

Steels processed by Sidertaglio Lamiere

Sidertaglio Lamiere primarily handles high yield strength plates such as S690QL, S890QL, and S960QL, all certified by European steel mills. These steels are widely used across various industries, including the construction of lifting machinery, earthmoving vehicles, cranes, and supporting frames for trucks or railway carriages.

Thanks to their high strength, these steels are also used in civil and industrial construction. The range of thicknesses handled by Sidertaglio Lamiere varies from 3 mm to 200 mm, with standard commercial formats (1500/2000/2500 x 6000/8000/10000/12000 mm). We can supply full plates or custom hot-cut parts according to designs.

Certification and applications

These steels comply with European standards and come with the manufacturer’s certification. They are suitable for a wide range of industries, including transportation, lifting, construction, and mechanics.
